I am fascinated by mudlarking, where people search old trash dumps, rivers and historic sites for literal buried treasure. The U.K. is a reliable source of amazing finds, including the Ilminster ring. Unearthed (literally) in 2018 with a small cache of Roman coins, it is made of gold and bears a carved blue gem depicting the Roman goddess Victoria. It would have been owned by someone of high status who was undoubtedly unhappy to have lost it.
