Jewel of the day: Romanov Russia Ancient Roman Silver Legionary Ring with Imperial Eagle

If I had unlimited funds to buy jewellery, this is probably the type of thing I’d spend my money on, as alluring as diamonds and gemstones are. I love that it’s reputedly as old as it is, and think about who might have worn it and where it’s been in the time since its original owner had it.

Romanov Russia says, “This exceptionally rare ancient Roman silver legionary ring is finely engraved with an imperial eagle holding a victory wreath in its beak, flanked by two military standards.

Military standards, symbols of the Roman legions, were frequently depicted on Roman coins, beginning with issues of Julius Caesar and Mark Antony in the 1st century BC and continuing until the fall of the Western Roman Empire in the 5th century AD.

Rings of this distinctive form, with fluted shoulders and ornate bezels, are traditionally dated to the late Roman period, circa 300–400 AD.

Condition: The ring is entirely original, solid, in excellent condition, and fully wearable.”

It is a size 9 and priced at USD$11,000.
