I’m a sucker for museum gift shops so when I last went to England to Hampton Court Palace I did a little bit of shopping, picking up a reproduction of a jeweled basket brooch owned by Queen Elizabeth. I believe it was a gift upon the birth of Prince Charles.
So I was a bit surprised to see that the range of offerings from Historic Royal Palaces seems to have become … less connected to the British royal family (except for questionable earrings using Princess Diana’s engagement ring and Anne Boleyn’s B necklace as the design focal points).
This piece was among the nicer ones, made using sterling silver, white topaz and garnet. Part of their description: Inspired by the intricate ceiling of Anne Boleyn’s Gateway at Hampton Court Palace, the quatrefoil shape embodied both power and harmony in Tudor design. Associated with good luck, it can be found in the architecture, fabrics and jewels throughout our six historic royal palaces.
It is priced at £170.
