The central plot point of the upcoming movie Ocean’s 8 features a jewel heist. The objective: to steal a Cartier necklace worn by Anne Hathaway’s character to the Met Gala.
You will be happy to know that no gems were harmed in the making of this film. Cartier recreated (in zirconium oxide and gold) a similar necklace that had been made in 1931 for the Maharajah of Nawanagar. The original also featured coloured diamonds. The Toussaint name is an homage to Cartier’s creative director during the 1930s (and creator of famous jewels like the Duchess of Windsor’s flamingo brooch and the house’s iconic panthers).
The piece is not for sale and will remain in the Cartier archives.

Well, since they’re just going to stick it in a safe maybe they’ll let me borrow it to wear to the opera. 😀.
