Jewel of the day: Verdura Double Crescent Bracelet

The venerable design house of Verdura is celebrating a 75th anniversary. They have highlighted several iconic pieces in both their catalogue and in a specially curated retrospective exhibition curated by Reinaldo and Carolina Hererra, and Patricia Lansing. The exhibit space will be next to the store’s boutique at 745 Fifth Avenue in New York, and will run from October 14-December 23.

As part of their catalogue, Verdura juxtaposed items with vintage photos of celebrities, socialites and models. Elegance is timeless; point made.

This double crescent bracelet and earrings, worn by a model, still look appealing. I’m no fan of smoking, having lost both parents to lung cancer, but it’s easy to see how smoking was considered glamorous when viewed in a photo like this.

The gold bracelet sells for USD $43,500; the earrings, set with diamonds and using platinum and gold, are USD $67,500.

  1. Timeless and of superlative craft, this selection will endure when Twinkie brands wither and die. Yes, I totally concur about the smoking reference.

I am forever astonished by high prices on brand vintage jewelry. I do think the bracelet, by virtue of its weight, would be the more expensive item, diamond content appearing similar. This is more evident from the photo.

Verdura is on par with the very finest jewelers, both from the standpoint of quality and design. If you’ve ever felt a piece personally…you will know what I mean. It’s akin to holding a bracelet from Michael Bondanza. Oh my, platinum and gold at their finest!

Funny how I’m seeing the social feeds with so much yellow gold these days. I’m in the business personally, and I continue to be amazed at the wealthy ladies who still wear white metals, platinum for their wedding rings, white gold for accent pieces, and silver for everyday. I personally design using yellow gold with silver. It avoids that age old debacle over what metal to wear on a particular day. With two tone, just throw it on and mix to your heart’s content. This bracelet demonstrates my “proverb.”

  2. I have a much loved ring in platinum … and would never get this metal again for anything requiring daily wear. It required constant repairs and has become very battered. But my yellow and white gold pieces …. not much sign of use. I do think all metals go through popularity phases, like rose gold lately. It’s all a bit cyclical.
