Jewel of the day: Panthere de Cartier Gold and Diamond Ring

Cartier has made the panther the house’s symbol, and has used the sleek animal in many of its designs.  The Panthere de Cartier ring is a staple design for Cartier.

The Cartier site notes, “The Maison’s emblematic panther first leaped into the world of Cartier jewelry in 1914. Louis Cartier was a pioneer in taming the legendary creature and his associate Jeanne Toussaint went on to make magnificent use of the icon. The panther has since inspired a timeless and elegant collection of jewelry and timepieces that show the multiple facets of the animal that can be at times bold, regal or sensual.”

Jeanne Toussaint designed many pieces for the Duchess of Windsor, including this well-known bracelet.

For mere mortals (who have a sizable amount of disposable income) Cartier offers this 18K yellow gold ring, with a diamond pave panther head set with two emerald eyes and an onyx nose, I like the fact that the design wraps horizontally around the finger, instead of putting the panther’s head in the centre of the ring. You can own a piece of Cartier symbology for USD $19,100.
