Last week’s royal wedding has upped my appetite for fine jewellery, and Sotheby’s May 17 auction is providing a lot of lucious items to gaze at. This set by Greek jeweller Vourakis (founded in 1926 and still in business) would have been the height of fashion in the late 1950s or early 1960s. Now it looks somewhat dated but not yet quite vintage. The colour combination reminds me of a Christian Dior costume pin from the same period, both in terms of the stone colour and cuts and overall setting. Estimate is Swiss francs 7-11,000. For the sake of comparison, the 1964 Dior pin is shown below.


Wow- good memory to tie those two together. They really do look alike.
