Using the form of a scampi for a bracelet would seem natural, given the shape of the crustacean. It could look creepy or it could look like this stunning exemplar from Roman jeweller Aggravi. This piece is part of the May 11 Sotheby’s auction, but in a Christie’s sale last year, a similar bracelet in different stones was also offered. Christie’s noted, “In 1978, Carlo Aggravi opened his first shop in Rome together with his friend the Duke Augusto Torlona. Creating unique one-off pieces, his creations became famous amongst a very elite clientele. Today, Carlo Aggravi continues to create bold and colourful jewellery in his very distinctive style, like this unusual, amusing and very stylish crayfish bracelet.” And for more “six degrees” trivia, actress Brooke Shields is descended from the noble Torlona family on her father’s side.
Auction estimate is 10,000-15,000 Swiss francs. It’s made of green garnets, tsavorite, sapphires, rubies and diamonds. However, if you’re hoping to net this scampi for a bargain price, be aware that the Christie’s piece (made of rubies and pink sapphires) sold for $69,461.
And for comparison, here is the bracelet that sold at Christie’s last year:
