I was both delighted and frustrated when I came across this picture of actress Ava Gardner wearing, as a necklace, the exact same design I have in a rhinestone pin. I say frustrated because the article (in the February 1993 issue of The Antique Collector – you know you’re a packrat when…) says nothing about the necklace at all. In an article called “Jewellery of the stars” all they talk about is a huge emerald ring she owned. So … I’ll never know if that necklace was costume jewellery or the real thing. But, the design is definitely very close to my pin (the loop is slightly different but the rest looks the same), which is base metal, rhodium plated and unsigned. If anyone has any clue as to the maker, or can shed any light on Ms. Gardner’s necklace, please let me know!

great article. thanks!
