Jewel of the day: Hancocks Georgian Revival Ring

You have to do a pretty careful read of this ring’s description to understand what it truly is and when it was made.

It took me a couple of reads to realize it’s a fairly contemporary piece made by the British firm Hancocks London This ring is in the Georgian style, with blackened platinum around the 1.01 old European cut diamond set into 18k yellow gold.

They are calling it Georgian revival which is a bit of a misnomer (depending if it was made after the mid 1950s). It’s Georgian in style, or at least the setting is as this diamond cut was not introduced until the 1870s, long after the period ended.

The diamond has fantastic specs but considering it’s not antique or even vintage and that you can get a similar lab diamond for far less (yes, I’m a proponent), its £14,500 price is on the indulgent side…
