Scottish agate jewellery, sometimes called pebble jewelry, had long been made but became popular when Queen Victoria wore pieces to show her love of all things Scotland.
This bracelet is unusual in that most designs of the period used agate rods or ovals but this piece has carved flower heads. The heart lock was a common feature on a lot of bracelets of the time, here rendered with a cabochon cut agate.
