Jewel of the day: Lizzie Fortunato Blue Velvet Necklace

This necklace by Lizzie Fortunato is part of a limited edition collection on her site. She notes, “This exclusive capsule collection combines semi-precious stones with Venetian trade beads that date back to the mid-1800s.

These beads became a form of currency taken to foreign shores in exchange for goods like spices, fabrics, and palm oil. We are so inspired by these materials that have traversed the globe and passed through so many hands over the past two centuries.

Lizzie not only researched and selected all the antique trade beads herself, but also handmade each of these pieces. This little capsule allowed her to flex her favorite muscle – super creative, limited edition design.

Faceted blue topaz beaded necklace with antique striped Venetian trade beads (circa mid 19th century/early 20th century) and gold vermeil toggle closure.”

This is priced at USD$415.
