Jewel of the day: Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab Clockwork Scent Locket

Pendants or lockets that held fabric soaked in scent, or herbs, are not new. Usually known as pomanders, they allowed the wearer to avoid the harsher scents of the street by simply holding the item up to their noses and smelling that instead. If you like the idea of a more organic form of wearing perfume, this locket by Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab should appeal.

Made of sterling silver, it opens so that you can place a scented scrap of fabric inside.

They explain, “These are heavy lockets, thick with silver, and are perfect for use as a perfume oil conduit. Dab your favorite Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab concoction onto muslin, velvet or cotton, and place the swatch inside the locket. Your body will warm the silver, and the locket will exude pure, unadulterated scent.

Each locket is hand cast .925 sterling silver, and each locket’s bale sports the alchemical symbol for brimstone. The oval lockets measures 1.5″ from top to bottom, and the circular lockets measure approximately 1″ in diameter with the exception of the Clockwork locket, which measures approximately 1.25″ in diameter. The Clockwork locket is hand cast .925 sterling silver that has been partially gold washed using a method popularized in the 19th century. Portions of the face of the Clockwork locket have been deliberately tarnished.

These lockets were created exclusively for Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab. They cannot be found anywhere else in all of Heaven and Earth. Since each piece is hand cast, the lockets will come down temporarily as they sell out in order for us to take the time and care necessary to create more. Our lockets come with a 24″ nickel-plated iron chain.’

This sells for USD$100.
