This ring is both spooky and enchanting. Made in approximately 1770, it is a Venetian carnival mask rendered in enamel and set with rose cut diamond eyes and foiled rubies.

Offered by Sotheby’s today, they explain, “Such rings were given as tokens of sentiment during the 18th century. Carnival masks, entwined hearts, flower baskets and gaming cards were all employed, inscribed with romantic prose or concealing lockets containing locks of hair.”

The pre-sale estimate is GBP3,000 — 4,000.
