Jewel of the day: Diamond Pendant Earrings with David Webb Jackets

Diamonds may not be a girl’s best friend, but they’re sure right up there. Especially this stunning pair of diamond pendant earrings with three different diamond and enamel jackets made by David Webb.

These are being offered for sale by Sotheby’s at an auction to take place in New York on September 23. The auction catalogue describes the earrings this way: “The pendant earrings topped by two round diamonds weighing 3.00 carats each, suspending two pear-shaped diamonds weighing 6.31 and 6.29 carats; pendants detachable; together with three pairs of earring jackets, the first set with round diamonds weighing approximately 1.65 carats, applied with black enamel, mounted in 18 karat gold and platinum, signed David Webb, numbered CC85; the second pair set with round diamonds weighing approximately 1.70 carats, applied with white enamel, mounted in 18 karat gold and platinum, signed David Webb, numbered CC86; the third pair set with round diamonds weighing approximately 3.15 carats, mounted in platinum, signed David Webb, numbered CC84; in addition to the earring pendants being detachable, the three sets of earring jackets are also interchangeable to allow for a variety of wear.”

The earrings come with GIA reports for the diamonds; the sale estimate is USD $1,000,000 — 1,500,000.

  1. I’m going to Sotheby’s to see them next week and try them on. I will let you know. they look simply smashing with so many ways to wear them.

  2. I am always humbled by The Maestro, the great David Webb. While the Zenith of his jewelry production phase is over, the absolute integrity of his work lives on and on. I own a very large DWebb platinum, enameled gold and diamond ring which would be a lovely accessory to these earrings. I’m a guy, and it serves me well anyway. I saw these earrings in the new catalog, which is brimming with beauty.

Find also among its pages a very important Flower Necklace, antique, but from the collection of Lorraine Schwartz. It’s comprised of rose cut and mine cut diamonds, all mounted in the Georgian manner with oxidized silver and high karat gold. A rare piece, indeed. Smashing!!!

I genuflect to Mr Webb. What a talented man he was!
