Jewel of the day: Mickey Roof Outrageous Opal Twig Bracelet

This piece lives up to its name and it is wonderful in the way a beautiful opal piece can be. Dubbed the Outrageous Opal Twig bracelet, the centrepiece is a large Australian opal, set in 18k yellow “branch” textured gold.

Designed by Mickey Roof, the site notes, “A jewelry designer since 1972, Micky Roof specializes in custom design and mesmerizing one-of-a-kind creations. Her trademark talent is an innate ability to match breathtaking gemstones with complementary metals — adding textures and details that translate her passion for nature and its principle elements and universal rhythms. Over the years, Micky has grown from a one-person studio to a full-service jewelry store and gem gallery… this atelier, The Jewelbox, is located on the Cayuga Lake Waterfront in Ithaca, New York.”

This piece can be purchased online (price upon request) or at the brick and mortar store in Ithaca.

  1. Mickey has a terrific vibe to her designs. I just visited her site. The “wrinkle rings” are fantastic. They’re so wearable, and they look as comfortable as an easy chair.
The bracelet is a look I’ve seen way too much, to be quite honest. Since I’m in the business, please forgive my somewhat jaded response. Another designer who uses the twiggy branch coral motif is Pade Vavra. Her pieces tend to go a bit edgier. They both work in 18K gold. They both use nature as their muse. Mickey is a consummate craftsperson, do doubt. I imagine the finishing is flawless. I’d love to meet this charming lady.
