May 1 is traditionally a day when lily of the valley is offered as a token of spring. Probably my favourite flower, I love the scent, the very limited time span that lily of the valley is available, and the delicate look of the blooms.
This set of a necklace and earrings is sold through the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. I bought the earrings on my trip there last fall (today is surely the day to inaugurate them!). They are inspired by a piece in the museum’s Faberge collection, a miniature spray of lily of the valley (late 19th–early 20th century), delicately modeled in gold, silver, and enamel with pearls, diamonds, and jade in a tiny rock crystal vase.
I was really impressed with the quality of this jewellery. The earrings are plated with 24K, hand enameled, and accented with cultured freshwater pearls, with gold filled wires. The necklace has a lobster claw clasp, and adjusts from 18” to 20” long with an extender chain. The set sells for USD $235, $211.50 to museum members.
