Jewel of the day: Dior “Mise en Dior” bead necklace

I often end up posting something by taking a meandering route when looking for something else. I was intrigued with the prefall designs for Dior by Camille Miceli and though I couldn’t find photos of those (other than in The New York Times’s T Magazine) I did find this piece on the Dior website.

As their perfume says, j’adore Dior, especially their costume pieces from the 1950s and 1960s, when all their clothing had accessories to match. These included hats, gloves, shoes and, of course, jewellery. Those days are long gone, but Dior is still doing a tidy business selling accessories. (I’m waiting for all those heavy gold and primary coloured stone pieces, oh so Carrington-esque) to become fashionable again. At which point, I will run and hide…

This piece is pretty, it’s wearable, and yet for me, it lacks the Dior flair I’ve seen and loved in older pieces. It’s made of gold-plated metal and resin beads (resin…. no glass or crystal??). The Miceli pieces I saw in the Times were much more intriguing and did remind me of the Dior heritage. They are also very spency, with necklaces in the vicinity of $3500+.

This piece, dubbed Mise en Dior, is a somewhat more reasonable £870. (I was taken by the fact that it has a name, as all the vintage Dior pieces I’ve seen had them too. Memories!)

    1. Undoubtedly. It just isn’t all that inspiring, especially considering the brand heritage, materials and price.
