Suzanne Belperron did not believe in signing her work – she felt her distinctive style would stand on its own. Her pieces were beloved by the creme de la creme of European society, including the Duke and Duchess of Windsor (her blue chalcedony flower set was copied by Kenneth Jay Lane as part of his tribute to the Duchess), the Aga Khan and Elsa Schiaparelli. The rights to many Belperron pieces were acquired by Ward Landrigan, who now owns jeweller Verdura.
This piece is really timeless in its design – it may have seemed somewhat futuristic when it was first designed (I’m guessing in the early 1940s) but it looks completely contemporary today. Available from Belperron; price upon request.
