If you mentioned the word “skull” and asked people to name the designer it was most closely identified with, I’m sure Alexander McQueen would be the top answer. I’m ok with skulls but I found the pervasive use of them, along with skeletal and ghostly images, ineffably sad in the last collection he produced before his suicide. It speaks more to me of the pain he must have been in than any design aesthetic.
