Jewel of the day: Viking Trinkets Jörmungandr – The World Serpent Bracelet

I love the idea of Viking-inspired jewelry but calling the line Viking Trinkets instead of something like, oh, I don’t know, Wrath of Thor, seems somehow … wimpy?

The jewelry, however, is anything but. This stainless steel flexible bracelet has a back story so settle in. “In Norse mythology, the Midgard serpent Jörmungandr, a son of Loki and the giantess Angrboða, was a sea serpent that grew so large it could surround the Earth and grasp its own tail in the vast ocean. It is the perfect example of an ouroboros – an ancient symbol of the eternal cycle of life, death, and rebirth, depicted often in Norse stories. Our serpent bracelet lets you wear this motif on your wrist, whether as a reminder of this myth or a representation of life and death.

The god Thor is his particular enemy, and they are known for their fierce battles and legendary confrontations between god and monster. In one famous legend, Thor engages in a fishing battle for Jörmungandr, but fails to pull him up when the giant Hymir, fearing Ragnarok, severs the line, sending the serpent back to the depths. In the end, Ragnarok does arrive; however, Thor and the Midgard Serpent are destined to slay each other in a final battle, killing both. Jörmungandr is not just a mere creature; it is a powerful symbol of chaos and change in the Norse world, making a Jörmungandr bracelet a meaningful accessory.”

This is currently on sale for USD$99 from $149.
