Jewel of the day: Victorian 15ct Gold Illusion Bangle

One of the things I love about antique jewellery is wondering about who owned the piece originally and where it may have been worn. This Victorian bracelet has the advantage of being far less fussy than a lot of pieces from the era. It’s simple and elegant and looks very modern.

The site notes, “A good looking 15ct gold bangle that was assayed in Birmingham in 1890. This bangle has a visual secret. When slowly rotated it appears to narrow and then widen. This optical illusion was popular in the late Victorian and Edwardian periods and pieces such as rings and bangles were often marketed as being “Magic” jewellery.”

This is priced at USD$2,600.
