Jewel of the day: Faberge Winter Egg

It’s safe to say most of us will never own anything as fabulous or expensive as this Faberge egg, recently sold by Christies for about USD$30,000,000. Most of the eggs created for the Russian royal family had a surprise inside of them. In this case, winter gives way to spring with a cheerful bouquet of flowers.

The link will take you to the history of this piece, which was a gift from Tsar Nicholas to his mother. It’s one of only seven imperial eggs still in private hands.

Given the actual very wintry view outside my window, I’d rather have platinum and diamond ice, thank you very much.
