Jewel of the day: Lang Antiques Moonstone Festoon Necklace

One of the things I like about antique jewellery is that although you will see the same style in different iterations, it’s unusual to see the exact same piece. So the individualism appeals to me.

This pretty 15k gold Victorian necklace offered by Lang Antiques is a style typical of the period, but also a bit unusual in its use of moonstone, one of my favourite stones. They explain, “We love our gold chains and our indispensable strands of pearls, but sometimes, you want to go up a notch and step into the fancy-but-not-too-fancy realm of adornment. Of course, we have the perfect piece. This elegant and slightly princess-y jewel glows with enchanting blue sheen cabochon moonstones, is embellished with swags of fine chain, and features a trio of dancing moonstone drops (sigh!). Lovely low-key fancy. Hand fabricated in 15K yellow gold, it measures 16 3/4 inches and is accompanied by its original box from watchmaker and jeweler S. Greenough & Sons in Bolton, Makers to the Admiralty.”

This is priced at USD$5,850.
