Jewel of the day: Carla Fernández Woven Skeleton Earrings

On my recent trip to London, these were high on my must see list and they ended up coming home with me. Today is their (Halloween) debut.

Part of the Victoria and Albert’s Frida Kahlo exhibit-themed jewelry, these are made by Carla Fernández and woven from palm leaves. The museum notes, “Carla Fernández’s design ethos is rooted in the earth, people and rituals of Mexico. Working with indigenous communities, she draws on her Mexican heritage, with her work combining high fashion and age-old weaving and design techniques.  Made in the Yucatan Peninsula, these earrings are woven from palm leaves. They feature delicate skeletons that nod to Mexico’s Day of the Dead.”

These sell for £60.
