Jewel of the day: Kenneth Jay Lane Diana Vreeland Earrings

I can’t remember when I first learned about Diana Vreeland but I think it was a few years before her Hollywood costume exhibit at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art. I still have the enormous brocade covered catalogue. And when I say catalogue, in the larger than life way that was Vreeland, think a massive hardcover tome. I still remember the fantastic thrill I felt when I was at the museum and spotted her briskly walking a few feet in front of me.

Pretty much everything about her was larger than life. These earrings by Kenneth Jay Lane are, I believe, based on her own earrings. On the KJL site, they note, “This unique gold filagree earring with bright ruby and emerald faceted stones with delicate emerald and ruby drops is the perfect earring to accentuate your day time look. Measurement: 4 1/4 Inches long.”

Because of COURSE DV would have worn these during the day. And for that and so many other things, I applaud her.

These sell for USD$115.
