Jewel of the day: Princess Diana Aquamarine Ring

OK, one last bit of royal wedding bling, for now at least. On her way to the evening reception, Meghan Markle was sporting a ring Diana began to wear about a year before her death. Word is she occasionally wore it on her left hand ring finger. Most of Diana’s jewels belonged to the Royal Family and went back to them after her death, but she did have some of her own pieces (the famous sapphire engagement ring; her Cartier Tank watch, and this, among others). These were left to her sons and her will specified that they be available in time for their wives. (And it’s a bit jarring to think that Meghan is the same age as Diana was when she died.)

Aquamarines are really a deco stone to me, as they were probably most popular then and into the early 1940s. Except for its provenance, it’s probably among the least valuable pieces Diana owned, but it sure packs a punch. On her wedding day, it may have been Markle’s later in the proceedings something borrowed and something blue, or it may be her wedding gift from Harry. Either way, it went perfectly with her gown (and the baby blue Jaguar and her blue soled shoes.)
