Jewel of the day: Diana Kangizere Peridot and Plique a Jour Enamel Brooch

It’s funny how jewellery comes into your life (or at least mine) in the most unexpected ways.

My husband and I were on our way to see a play last night and were about 45 minutes early. So we wandered down King Street to the TIFF gift shop, figuring it would still be open. (TIFF being the Toronto International Film Festival.) In the window… cases of jewellery, an item they don’t typically stock in this shop. But these were part of a show by the George Brown College’s jewellery grads.

I was really taken in particular by the work of Diana Kangizere, and very much in particular by this exquisite brooch. A convex half circle, it is worked in plique a jour enamel in shades of blue and green, and fastens with a sterling silver pick with a large peridot at the top. I tried to find contact information for Diana to see if she would be willing to talk to me for the blog, but I haven’t been able to locate it. Next stop: the college.

So I can’t give you a link but here is the piece that so captivated me last night (no, I didn’t buy it – I wish.)

It is priced at CDN$960.
