Sotheby’s auctioned this spectacular diamond and sapphire bracelet by Van Cleef & Arpels on December 5, 2017. Part of their “20 most fabulous jewels” it certainly deserves the title. The catalogue notes, “Set with five sugarloaf cabochon sapphires weighing a total of approximately 193.73 carats, joined by articulated segments of geometric design set with square, rectangular, round and old European-cut diamonds, length 7 inches, with French assay marks, workshop marks for Rubel Frères, and maker’s marks for Van Cleef & Arpels; circa 1935.”
The estimate was USD$1,000,000 — 1,500,000. Selling price including buyer’s premium: $3,135,000. Someone had the best kind of blue Christmas.
