What I like about this ring are its signs of having been worn, and things others would probably feel are flaws, like the monogram carved into the centre sapphire. Bearing the initials ELD JR it looks almost a bit like the Greek key design on the sides, rendered in gold inlay on the platinum ring setting. The sapphire weighs 6.5 carats.

This is being offered at auction in New York by Bonhams; estimates are USD$ 1,500 – 2,500 CA$ 2,000 – 3,400. This goes under the hammer December 6.
