It’s wonderful when someone takes a fairly common form – in this case, the hoop earring – and creates them anew with a twist.
These Alice Cicolini earrings have small balls with a Japanese motif. Her site notes, “23.5ct gold & vitreous enamel balls, 18ct gold hoops, polished white opal. The Kimono collection explores the Japanese tradition of containing pattern within circular forms. Handmade in India & London, these earrings are inspired by evenings spent under the carved pillars surrounding the courtyard at Anokhi Farm, the home of Faith & John Singh in Jaipur, where Alice has spent many evenings designing with the sound of peacocks calling to each other in the distance. The pattern that is hand carved on miniature scale comes from diverse sources – miniature painting from the Royal Jodhpur collection, antique kimonos and 17th century Syrian damasks.”
They sell for £3,600.
