Jewel of the day: Antique Diamond and Conch Pearl Tiara

This delicate tiara is being auctioned by Toronto’s Dupuis Auctions at their upcoming spring event, to be held June 15. (Given that it is snowing as I write this, we may yet be waiting for spring in June…)

Pre-sale estimate is $15,000-$18,000, though the site is not yet providing details as to stone weight or quality or manufacture other than the fact that it is set with diamonds, pearls, and rare pink conch pearls. The tiara can be taken off its frame to be worn as a necklace, as shown.

The fitted box says it came from London & Ryder, which appears to be no longer in business, but was as late as 1911 and were in business as early as the 1860s, offering (according to Bonham’s) work by John Brogden, well-known neo-Renaissance style jeweller.
