Jewel of the day: Leah Aripotch Snake Glove

When Michael Jackson debuted his rhinestone encrusted single glove, people were all ooh, ahh. Well, that’s because they hadn’t yet seen this bronze, copper, brass and leather snake glove by Leah Aripotch. No one is going to jostle you on a crowded subway if you’re strap hanging with this on. Or, likely, anywhere else.

It’s no surprise that Aripotch is a trained sculptor, but she also produces very inventive jewellery. Adornment might be a better word. For information about pricing and availability, contact her here.

  1. I almost forwarded this post to someone who I know will wear austentacious pieces. The more garrish, the better for her. I decided against it. These gloves are just too much. The sculpural influence is obvious, but the designer pulled them into another rhealm, a place that makes them just not useful. Tone down all the metaphors, and they could be saleable and fun to wear…imho.

  2. I like what she’s doing here – jewellery isn’t always functional and maybe it shouldn’t be. And it’s an extension of her sculpture design into something she feels is wearable art. I wouldn’t go out into a snowstorm with it, but I can see wearing it to an event.
