I think these earrings by Australian designer Simone Walsh are really quite unique, and beautifully made. She explains, “The front of each earring features an arabesque fretwork cut out within a quatrefoil outline.
The rear of each earring is also a quatrefoil shape in sterling silver, but the inside has been beaten with a special silversmithing hammer to give it a raw silk texture, which has then been gilded with 23ct gold, using an ancient technique to bond the gold to the silver.
The design has been cut out entirely by hand in sterling silver, with the two panels for each earring being domed and joined on the curved edges at the top and bottom, plus each side.
The earrings have been given a bright and shiny finish which will reflect the light both inside and out.
The earring panels are suspended from curvy handmade ear wires in sterling silver. The earrings will swing and sparkle as you move.
Note that the gilded finish on the inside of this design will vary slightly in coverage from one pair to the next due to the construction method. This gives you a truly unique piece of handmade jewellery.”
These sell for AUS $132.
