Jewel of the day: Bande des Quatres Tony Earring Long

This earring, by Montreal based design duo Bande des Quatres, can be worn three ways: as a stud, with the drop behind or in front of the ear. The designers note, “Two part earring. Pentagon stud and bottom open pentagon are oxidized sterling silver. Curved wire connected to back open polygon is polished sterling silver. Earring can be worn three different ways: stud alone, stud with back piece placed behind the earlobe or both parts in front of the earlobe. Stud measures 0.5” long. Full earring measures 2” long. The oxidized sterling silver is NOT a permanent finish therefore we can not guarantee how long it will remain, it all depends on how hard the wearer is on their jewelry.”

These are custom made and are CAD $195.

  1. It’s good to see hand made silver here, which is evident by the “not so perfect” trapozoidal shapes at the bottoms of each earring. The look is avant garde, yet they don’t have horns, claws or skulls, which is refreshing, too. I will always like the thorny look of “the woman scorned,” which I am accustomed to calling it, though I am relieved to see someone reaching further in this example.

I think one could just take away the pyramids and wear diamond studs with the bottom sections. That would be a fun and glitzier approach.

The artisanal look leads me to think they might do a number of art fairs and assorted venues. These events are often resplendant with exhibitors with this type of merchandise. This is a compliment. You also find jewelers with exceptional inlay skills, lapideries, etc. The very reasonable price point is also a giveaway since designers make a number of “bread & butter” items which help defray the cost of the venue.
