Swarovski Fall Winter 2014 Preview

I was fortunate enough to be invited to the Swarovski fall winter 2014 preview. The theme for the season focuses on cuts and designs favourable to the passage of light. There are some interesting things to come, some more wearable than others. Look for these to start showing up in stores and online around August.

I was particularly intrigued by the Atelier Collection pieces by Viktor and Rolf, which use black rhinestones on black velvet. (Writing rhinestones and velvet probably makes you think about bad flea market pictures, but trust … these were really cool.) The texture and play of shine and matte was really great. They used the photo of the building (shown with the pieces) as their inspiration.

There was a very cool design featuring filament tubes filled with loose crystals, somewhat similar to the Christopher Kane Atelier “bolster” pieces. The bracelets are doubled up, and can also be worn as a choker. They have a ton of sparkle, without catching on clothing, a plus in my view.

Also some pretty, wearable bracelets reminiscent of the very popular Slake micro fibre pieces.

There were also several very ornate pieces geared to holiday parties…

And the Shourouk collaboration continues, this time with watches. These will sell for about $1500, and come with three interchangeable bands and crystal faces.
