Jewel of the day: Carla Pennie Cut Out Pin

A while ago, I read about how upright pianos are being sent to landfills in huge numbers, because when people learn to play (if they learn to play) they tend to use electronic keyboards or apps. Seeing this pin by Carla Pennie, made of a reclaimed ivory piano key, made me think of all those abandoned and trashed instruments. And all this ivory keys.

Pennie bored the key with small, irregular circles, and set it in a sterling silver bezel. She used India ink to highlight the interior of the circles, adding depth and bringing the dimension to the forefront.
