Jewel of the day: Emefa Cole Blackened Metal Ring

I would like to say more about this spectacular ring by Emefa Cole … but the site is woefully lacking in details. However, there are specifics about Cole and her design aesthetic:

London-based emerging jeweller and sculptor Emefa Cole, crafts distinctively bold jewellery. Characterised by imaginative flare, Emefa began constructing an artistic space for her inventive designs during her training at the renowned Sir John Cass School of Art and Design, London. It was during her studies there that her Erosion range, a suit of rings was exhibited  at the esteemed Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths Craftsmanship and Design Awards Exhibition. Since then, requests to show her jewellery have been honoured with further exhibitions at Goldsmiths and notably the New Designers 2011 Exhibition.

Creating contemporary sculptured jewels perfect for the modern woman, Emefa is heavily influenced by discoveries of what lies beneath the surface. It is a theme drawn from her early life spent in Ghana, West Africa. Childhood tales of life-changing golden nuggets found in the dirt by impoverished people of gold mining communities, gave birth to a fascination with finding precious objects in unsuspecting places. Revealing unearthed treasures, be it from Mother Nature or long forgotten memories of our mind, is at the heart of all Emefa Cole pieces.

Emefa has carefully developed her craft and is also skilled in design, sculpture and metal-smithing.

Contact information for Cole is available here and you can see more of her designs here.

  1. You are right. The sight is in servere need of content not just details on the ring. Maybe she doesn’t need it?? However, considering her backstory, accolades and ability, it shouldn’t be hard. Though, your noteworthy story of her artistry superceeds that. Love it. Thanks!

  2. Her work is really stunning. The odd thing is she is advertising in UK publications, but when you go to the site, there is so little useful info. I do find that is common among jewellery web sites though. Often, lots of emphasis on form over function/shopping/information!
