Jewel of the day: Jennie Kwon Diamond Arc Necklace

There was one episode of Sex and the City I recall above all others, and of course, it involved jewellery. The one where Carrie received the diamond briolette necklace from her Russian paramour, played by Mikhail Baryshnikov. OK, it helped that he was the one who gave it to her. Long after his dancing days, I still have a crush on him. The actual necklace was valued at the time at USD $55,000 and made by Fred Leighton, though a crystal and sterling silver copy was used for some of the shooting, instead of the nine diamond beads strung on a platinum chain.

That necklace made me realize that diamonds didn’t have to be polished to perfection to be beautiful, that rough and irregular and even colour treated was just fine, too. (And yeah, I bought myself a Swarovski crystal and sterling silver copy).

Jennie Kwon’s blue diamonds strung on a fine (yellow or rose) gold chain reminds me of that piece. These beads are a lot smaller than the rocks gifted to Ms. Bradshaw, but the piece is perfect for layering and a delicate strand worn alone. Best of all, it’s USD $405. Maybe if I close my eyes, I can pretend they were given to me by the Russian himself.
