Princess Madeleine of Sweden defied expectations yesterday when she opted for the Modern Fringe Tiara (which she has often been photographed wearing) for her nuptials, rather than the Cameo Tiara her mother and sister wore for their weddings. The base of the tiara was entwined with orange blossoms.
The Modern Fringe Tiara was a 10th anniversary gift given to her mother, Queen Silvia, by her father, King Carl XVI Gustaf, in 1986. Though contemporary, it echoes the fringe tiaras popular in the Russian court and worn by other royal women.
Madeleine also opted for a diamond earrings and bracelet from the Bernadotte family vault. You can see a lime green fabric Brazilian good luck bracelet peeping out from under the diamond one; it’s considered bad luck to remove those as they must fall off on their own. Pretty cute that she decided to leave it – why tempt fate, after all? Her dress was personally designed by Valentino.
