I am fortunate to have several early pieces of Herve Van Der Straeten’s work. I have also bought some of the more recent jewellery designs, but I find them to be less complex and visually interesting than his earlier work. I’ve written previously about some of the figurals I own here and here.
I was very pleased to come across this hinged necklace, made with gold plated and hammered brass off set by black enamel. It sits high and slightly outward, a bit like a formal collar. My pleasure deepened when I was able to obtain it for a fraction of its original $980 price, as the store is (sadly) no longer carrying his line. Their loss, my gain.

This looks almost Art Deco . It’s high collar could be worn high on a neckline or open on the throat . The enamel brings a certain class to the hammered brass . Most would over look such a treasure . It’s like a fine vehicle being scrapped. This one is truly a find !! What year was this made ? As I said its origin to me looks Art Deco , however that was used in the 1980’s garishly in my opinion. When costume jewelery was a dime a dozen with no though or attention to detail. When one designs one thinks of the past or a creative future . I find this most captivating. Lucky you’ve found it ! Thank you for sharing it . ❤
