This is another recent addition to my collection. Designed by Toronto jeweller Barbara Jacob, it is a stunning and over sized silvr baroque freshwater pearl necklace. I really adore the organic look of the pearls, and the almost atomic/50s shapes.
For me, pearls need to either be very large, layered, or accented with other stones or they risk looking “establishment at a tea party”. I doubt anyone would mistake this necklace for something too conservative – each pearl is almost the size of a quarter.
I saw a very similar piece today by Jaleh Farhadpour; I didn’t ask the price but I am fairly sure it was more than the Cdn $350 this sells for. Jacob works with pearls, semiprecious stones and sterling silver, and her work can be found on her website. The picture below is mine (click the link above to see it photographed straight on); the necklaceis also available with golden pearls for the same price on her site.
