Jewel of the day: American Estate Jewelry Peony cuff

I love the story behind the founding of this company. From their web site:

“American Estate Jewelry was founded by Carolyn O’Keefe, a Baltimore native, who created the company in honor of her mother Sally who wore one special antique sterling cuff every day. The cuff had been passed down to Sally from her mother who’d received it from her father’s family estate. In seeking something similar to leave to her two daughters, Carolyn realized that many American traditions in silver making were being lost forever. Her idea was to discover master artisans and create new family heirlooms.

In America in the late 1800’s, American sterling silver making was in its heyday and our country’s expertise in beautifully crafted tableware and jewelry was globally renowned. In her search for heirloom quality sterling jewelry, Carolyn learned of an American silver company, Galmer Silversmiths and its founder, renowned silver master, Michael Galmer. Galmer is known for his dedication to preserving the tradition of the repousse craft and his technical brilliance.

Carolyn and Michael formed a team to bring truly enduring cuffs to women. Inspired by other antique pieces discovered in Sally’s jewel box, the American Estate Jewelry line will expand to brooches and other favored pieces of America’s silver traditions.”

This Peony cuff is a beautiful example of repousse silver workmanship. It measures 2 inches at its height and is 6.5 inches around and sells for USD $695.
