New York-based Chris Platt believes that the value in an item derives from its use and function and not necessarily from the innate worth of its materials. On his web site, he notes, “Rather than starting with precious materials that are given worth through economy, I use materials like stainless steel that function well from an engineering perspective and it is through manipulation that value is added to the work.”
This pendant is made of stainless steel worked with (again in his words), “amphibolite gneiss – a metamorphic rock personally collected from the Hudson
Highlands area. The nature of the fabrication process and the varying geometry of the stones yields pieces of which no two are alike. Fishmouth coping detail
at every solder location. Fabricated by me, here in New York City. Includes a 24inch lobster-clasp stainless steel chain. My goal is to build interest and equity in my pieces through a strong focus on craft and form.”
Available from Chris Platt for USD $154.

Beautiful and unique piece
