Jewel of the day: Alexandre Reza

This is more of a jeweller of the day, really. Alexandre Reza was known for his haute joaillerie designs and exclusive Paris salon. Reza was stricken with Alzheimer’s Disease and his shop was shuttered in 2008.

Reza collected the finest of the finest stones and eventually designed his own pieces.  Recently, his son and wife reopened, on Place Vendome, using his stock of oustanding gems and drawings. There is also a new Assouline book coming, written by the fantastic Vivienne Becker. (In keeping with the high end nature of its subject, the book sells for $1000 and is packaged in a jeweller’s suede clamshell box.)

I wrote about these earrings in 2010; they sold for 500,000 Swiss francs above estimate, with a hammer price of 1,762, 500. A spectacular blue and white diamond crossover ring by Reza can be seen here.
