Octavia Xiaozi Yang created the Joinery for Jewels collection as her Master’s project for the London College of Fashion. It is inspired by the Asian art of joinery, putting two pieces together without the aid of metal, glue or pins. The designer notes, “With the refining of Asian elements and the combination of different materials, the aim is to show the thoughts of Yin and Yang that the reverse only exists in balance of relationship to each other. Furthermore, the Designer expected to show there can be no force between the human beings and environment. Each part of jewellery can be removable by the smart construction which help extending the service life of fashion by changing the components for repairing or latest trend of color and textile. In this collection, traditional hand-made and modern technique are both involved, like silversmith, 3D print and laser cutting.”
She can be contacted at her website, where the entire collection can also be seen.
