Skater Joannie Rochette won the hearts of millions when she skated in the last winter Olympics days after her mother died unexpectedly of a heart attack. Recently voted Canada’s athlete of the year, she has also thrown her support behind charities such as “iheartmom,” an endeavour at the University of Ottawa to put funds towards research of heart disease in women.
