I think I still have Kate Middleton’s sparkler on the brain but here is a much more affordable option. The sapphire in this ring is too pale to be considered really top drawer, but I like the light violet colour. (A good sapphire should be a rich, cornflower blue.) It bears Austrian hallmarks and is surrounded by pave set diamonds. You can bid on it at the upcoming Christie’s sale, to be held in London at their South Kensington branch on January 19. Pre-sale estimate is a very reasonable £500 – £600 ($774 – $928).
