Jewel of the day: Sotheby’s pink diamond ring

The last lot at an auction is generally the showstopper, the equivalent of the couture wedding dress on the runway in Paris.

This is the final lot of Sotheby’s Magnificent Jewels auction, scheduled for November 16, 2010. It features an exceptionally rare pink diamond ring with a stone weighing 24.78 carats. The GIA report states that after repolishing, the stone may be flawless. It is a natural colour pink stone with no enhancements and VVS2 clarity. Purchased 60 years ago from Harry Winston himself, the stone has since been out of view. Auction estimate is 27,000,000-38,000,000 Swiss francs. That’s roughly $39,000,000. I will be very interested to see the hammer price on this lot.
