- Diamond distributor DeBeers has reported a first half profit and increase in sales of 74.1 percent. For the first half of this year, profits rose to $348 million, compared with a $6 million loss in the same period of 2009. The company attributes the change to renewed consumer confidence and demand, and corporate cost cutting measures.
- Retail buyers were in greater attendance at Las Vegas jewellery trade shows in June and though sales at the wholesale level were up, buyers still showed caution. Silver is gaining in popularity due to the high price of gold and buyers are looking for value priced merchandise to showcase in their stores.
